April 22, GNA – The Ghana Water Company limited (GWCL), is introducing High Density Polythene Pipe (HDPP), to replace the PVC pipes, to make it impossible for water leakages and illegal connections. The GWCL is using the new pipes at Accra West Region, were it is undertaking a 7.5 billion- cedi project.
Mr Anthony Cobbina, Project Engineer, who disclosed this to the Ghana New Agency in an interview on Thursday said the HDPP, could only be tampered, with by a special equipment, which was presently the monopoly of the GWCL.
He said the new pipes were also longer and had less joints unlike the PVC pipes that were susceptible to leakages. Mr Cobbina listed the beneficiary communities as Kasoa, Amanfrom, Iron City, New Bortiano, New Aplaku, Tetegu, New Weija (Mandela) New Weija Two and New Weija Two and Ayigbe Town. He said the project would hook 6,000 households to the distribution network in these areas.
The Project Engineer said contracts were yet to be awarded for the laying of distribution lines in areas like Chantang, Tabora, Gbawe and parts of Malam, Tantra Hill, Ofankor and Ablekuma.
