Accra, April 12, GNA, The Executive Committee of the Academic Board of the University of Ghana has abolished the system of placing students in quarantine for examination purposes.
A statement issued by the Committee said the decision takes effect from the forthcoming Second Semester Examinations.
The Committee which considered the second report of the Committee set up to review the University’s Examination processes was of the view that quarantining students, who have papers to write but could not do so because of clashes on the examination timetable, was not the best. The statement said that the End-of-Semester Examinations would be spread over three weeks in order to avoid timetable clashes and there would be no examinations on Saturdays and Sundays.
The Executive Committee said it took various decisions geared at protecting the integrity of the University’s certification processes. It also decided that Heads of Departments and Deans of Faculties should assume greater responsibility for the conduct of examinations. It said to strengthen the system of invigilation; the University would enforce strictly the responsibility of each Lecturer to carry out invigilation duties.
Students that arrive at examination centres 30 minutes or more after the commencement of the examinations would be turned away. The Executive Committee said the various measures were being taken to address the lapses identified by the Mfodwo Committee that investigated malpractices in the last semester examinations in the University.
