Avoid political interferences in schools administration

Kumasi, April 8, GNA – Nana Twie Adjei-Baffour, Ashanti Regional Secretary of the Ghana National Association of Teachers (GNAT), has told teachers not to allow political interferences to undermine the smooth running of schools.

He denounced the situation where political affiliation of some teachers would not allow them to work with School Management Committees (SMCs) and Boards.

Nana Adjei-Baffour was addressing a regional council meeting of the Conference of Heads of Basic Schools (COHBS) in Ashanti at the Teacher’s Hall in Kumasi on Friday.

The meeting, which was aimed at discussing ways of strengthening the management of basic schools, was under the theme: “The Role of the Headteacher in Present Ghana”.

The GNAT Regional Secretary said it was also important to create effective communication channels between schools, parents, communities and the Ghana Education Service (GES).

Nana Adjei-Baffour reminded teachers to appreciate their profession as public service that demands of them “a sense of personal and corporate responsibility for the education of pupils under their care”. He called on school heads to ensure effective supervision of teachers and pupils and that they would have to be fair and firm in administering discipline.
