DCE gives priority to education

Ejura (Ash), April 6, GNA – The District Chief Executive for Ejura-Sekyere-Dumase in Ashanti region, Madam Elizabeth Owusu on Monday said the focus of her administration for the past four years has been to improve the quality of education.

She said the provision of quality and accessible basic education is the key to facilitating the area’s socio-economic development and poverty reduction.

In an interview with the Ghana News Agency at Ejura the district capital, Madam Owusu said as a result, close to 70 per cent of the Assembly’s annual budget is spent on education. The DCE said many communities, including Serekyikora, Eyinayise and Dromonkuma have benefited from the HIPC funds in terms of classroom blocks and the provision of teachers quarters. Madam Owusu indicated that the district is well endowed with agricultural land, but less endowed with skilled human resource to facilitate rapid socio-economic development.

The DCE said the assembly would continue to pay more attention to education and skills development to improve the earnings of the people for investment.

She called on the chiefs and people of the area to put their political, ethnic and other differences behind and work together for accelerated development.

Madam Owusu commended the chiefs and people for their high sense of maintaining the peace and for their support during the first term of President Kufuor’s administration. The DCE urged them to continue to rally behind the government to prepare the grounds for sustainable socio-economic development
