Students advised not to adopt Kwaku Ananse’s dishonest life-style

Begoro, (E/R) March. 20, GNA- The Eastern Regional Director of Education, Mrs Ewura-Abena Ahwoi, has attributed the current examination malpractices that had rocked schools of late to students’ tendency to adopt the dishonest character traits of the folklore hero, ‘Kwaku Ananse’.

According to her, the dishonest lifestyle of ‘Kwaku Ananse’ was “increasingly becoming the accepted standard of smartness among students, especially, during examination periods.”

This was contained on a speech read on her behalf at the celebration of the Begoro Secondary School’s Students Representative Council (SRC) Week on Saturday under the theme: “Morality and self-discipline, essential ingredients for academic excellence.”

She said formal education needed to be re-enforced with well-packaged moral content, which would be able to transform the minds and hearts of students to embrace the “moral truth of goodness.” Mrs Ahwoi advised students to develop new core values that would help them to resist every form of undesirable pressure.

The Fanteakwa District Chief Executive, Mr Ebenezer Ofoe Caesar, also in a speech read on his behalf, cautioned school authorities not to take advantage of their positions to mete out unfair and inhuman treatment to students.

He said when this happened, students lose confidence in the school’s grievance solving procedures and the result “is the avalanche of student riots being witnessed in recent times.”

Mr Caesar advised students to follow due process in getting their grievances redressed than resorting to destructive tendencies, which were costly to themselves and society.

He called on the students to let the theme of the Week reflect in their daily activities since that was the only way they could give meaning to their celebration.

The SRC president, Master Nicholas Quarcoo, pledged that they were determined to uphold the message of the theme in their daily lives to uplift the image of the school and the country. Mar. 20, 05
