Farmer jailed 10 years for possessing cannabis

Tarkwa, (W/R) March 11, GNA- A Tarkwa Circuit Court, presided over by Mr John Ajet Nasam, has sentenced one Kwesi Anyaa, a 32-year old farmer to 10 years imprisonment in hard labour for possessing narcotic drugs.

Police Chief Inspector Alex Asamoah, told the Court that on December 2, 2004, the accused person claimed ownership of three polythene bags containing dry leaves, suspected to be cannabis in the boot of a taxicab, which were discovered by policemen on duty at the Bawdie barrier.

He said Anyaa admitted that the leaves were Indian hemp.
