Hohoe-Kpeme (V/R), March 9, GNA – Over 350 people were displaced at Hohoe-Kpeme and surrounding communities on Thursday, when a rainstorm ripped off the roofs of some 15 houses and two school blocks. Although the disaster caused extensive damage running into millions of cedis, there was no casualty reported.
The affected schools are Gbi Abansi Evangelical Presbyterian (EP) Primary and Sankies Advance Preparatory Schools (SAPS) at Gbi Hohoe. Mr Samuel Batse, Assemblyman for Gbi-Kpeme told the Ghana News Agency that over 50 displaced people are now living with friends and relatives, while about 100 affected pupils of the EP Primary School are having classes under trees and make-shift tents. Mr Ernest Saayoh, Headteacher of SAPS said the rainstorm had affected 200 pupils.
Mr Batse and Mr Saayoh appealed to the National Disaster Management Organisation, the Hohoe District Assembly and other benevolent organisations for assistance.
Mr Prince J. Hayibor, Member of Parliament for Hohoe North who visited the victims pledged to seek assistance for them.
