NFED facilitators receive awards at Daboase

Daboase (W/R), Jan. 14, GNA – Mr. Edward Tawiah-Amprofi, District Chief Executive of Mpohor Wassa East on Friday called on facilitators of Non-Formal Education to re-assess their role in the education of the country’s large illiterate population.

He made the call during an awards ceremony for 35 facilitators of the District Non Formal Education Division (NFED) at Daboase. The facilitators received bicycles, roofing sheets and sewing machines.

At the same ceremony, the National Disaster Management Organisation (NADMO) presented a bicycle each to its eight Zonal Coordinators to facilitate their work.

Mr Tawiah-Amprofi said the role of facilitators of the Non-Formal Education Division was enormous and as a result, they should be regularly motivated to make them more committed.

He appealed to them to organise their classes in a conducive atmosphere to attract more illiterates in their communities. Mr. Assaa Mensah, District Coordinator of the NFED, said the organisation had trained several people who could now read and write, adding that, some have started their own businesses and keeping proper records.

He said currently there were 1,006 new learners enrolled in the district being taught by 107 facilitators to read and write. Mr. Kofi Bosompem, District Coordinator of NADMO, urged staff of organisation to help educate the public on environmental issues such as waste disposal and reforestation to forestall disasters. He appealed to communities living on the banks of water bodies to relocate to new settlements to prevent any tragedy in the event of flooding.
