Korle Bu records 57 accidents on New Year’s Day

Accra, Jan. 2 GNA – The Accident Centre of the Korle Bu Teaching Hospital recorded 57 accident cases on New Year’s Day.

Twenty-two out of the number were road traffic accidents, 12 cases of assault, nine domestic accidents, while eight and six people were knock down by motorcycles and bicycles respectively.

The Department treated and discharged 49 of the victims who sustained minor injuries, while eight, with critical problems are still on admission.

Speaking to the Ghana News Agency (GNA), Ms. Agnes Frempong, Principal Nursing Officer on-Duty said three of the victims were rushed to the Accident centre, when the vehicle on which they were travelling collided with another one near the Densu river on the Accra-Kasoa road. She said, even though nobody died from the accident some of the passengers sustained fractures on their thighs and hips while others had swollen legs and cuts on the body.

She said with the exception of the three who are still receiving treatment, the rest have been treated and discharged. Ms Frempong advised drivers and motorcyclists to be careful when driving to avoid such accidents.

She further urged pedestrians to be vigilant when crossing the street to avoid being knocked down by cars and motorcyclists.
