Kyebi, Nov. 27, GNA – The East Akyem District Chief Executive (DCE), Mr Emmanuel Victor Asihene has advised the youth to be committed towards any career they had decided to pursue in future.
He noted that, it was important that they built interest in their future careers from childhood and be trained in leadership skills to be able to take up the mantle of leadership of the nation in future.
Mr Asihene was reacting to a 12-point resolution presented to him by the members of African Youth Alliance (AYA) at Kyebi, on Friday, after they had held a mock assembly to discuss policies and advocacy on adolescents issues and how best to address them.
The DCE, who was impressed with the solutions suggested by the mock assembly, noted that, giving the youth the opportunity to discuss societal problems, with encouragement, would breed leaders and politicians, who would be committed to the development of the young democracy of the nation.
He observed that, politics was a kind of career that needed to be learned, saying, “politics is like any other trade, which required apprenticeship to groom people to fit in it”.
Mr Asihene pointed out that, most African nations were suffering from bad governance because the people at the helm of affairs did not have the chance or opportunity to be groomed to assume leadership of nations.
The resolution called on the District Assembly to set-up a sub-committee on adolescents’ sexual and reproductive health issues and funds set aside for their activities.
It suggested that the assembly ensure that newspapers dealing with youth issues such as “The Junior Graphic”, were made available to all school libraries in the district, while the provision of recreational centres to cater for their health and well-being to keep them away from social vices were given due attention.
