Farmer fined for causing harm

Nyinahin (Ash), Nov. 11, GNA – A magistrate’s court at Nyinahin on Thursday imposed a six million cedi fine on a 35 year old farmer of Bontumuruso near Adiembra, for causing harm to a housewife. Larry Doctor the culprit who pleaded guilty to the charge will go to prison for 21 months in default.

In addition, the court ordered the accused to pay one million cedis as compensation to the victim or serve three extra months jail sentence. Police Inspector Raphael Dan-Mensah told the court that Madam Jamira Bawa, the complainant and the accused both lived at Bontumuruso. He said at about 21 hours on October 23, a misunderstanding arose between Larry and his wife following which Larry chased his wife with the intention of beating her.

Inspector Dan-Mensah said the complainant who saw the accused chasing his wife with a cutlass shouted for help, which enabled the wife to be rescued.

He said that same night the accused went to the complainant’s house and demanded from her why she shouted for help for his wife. The prosecutor said the accused who was still holding the cutlass, pulled the complainant down and slashed her a number of times. Inspector Dan-Mensah said some good Samaritans rescued the complainant and managed to arrest the accused and handed him over to the police.
