Prampram, Oct. 29, GNA – The Member of Parliament for Ningo/Prampram, Mr. Enoch Teye Mensah, has presented items totalling 92.7 million cedis to nine schools in the constituency to enhance teaching and learning in the area.
The items, which were bought from Mr. Mensah’s share of the MP’s common fund included computers, furniture, school jerseys, footballs and bags of cement.
The beneficiary schools were Mateheko, Prampram, Anwiam, Ayetepa, and Lekpongunor District Assembly Junior Secondary Schools. Others are primary schools at Ochebreku, Afienya, Kpongunor and Kpacheremidor. At separate presentations, the MP stated that even though there were many schools in the area, much needed to be done to create the conducive environment for effective teaching and learning and therefore he decided to give out most part of his share of the MP’s fund to education.
He called for effective cooperation between parents and teachers so as to improve education in the area.
“If parents take it upon themselves to motivate teachers in their communities they would spend much time on the children and the outcome will be nothing but distinctions,” he said.
Mr. Mensah, who was Sports Minister under the National Democratic Congress (NDC) Administration, recalled some of the achievements of his government for the area, including the provision of good roads and electricity and expressed the hope that the people will vote the Party back into power in the upcoming elections so that it would continue with its developmental agenda without any discrimination.
He expressed regret that many projects initiated by his government for the area had been abandoned by the current government.
He cited the Ningo-Wekumagbe road and the Djange Bridge, initiated to link Old and New Ningo, as some of such abandoned projects. The Dangme West Deputy Director of Education, Ms Margaret Ashiley, who received the items, gave the assurance that her directorate would do its best to provide the necessary teaching and learning materials to ensure the development of education in the area.
At the Lekpongunor JSS, the Headmaster, Mr. Jonathan Gleku, appealed for the establishment of an endowment fund to assist needy but brilliant children in the area.
