Ampem Darkoa Ladies have been knocked out of the 2026 CAF Women’s Champions League after losing 2-0 to defending champions AS FAR in their final Group B match in Egypt.
The Ghanaian champions needed only a draw at the Suez Canal Stadium in Ismailia on Sunday to secure a place in the semi-finals. They had opened the tournament with a 5-1 victory over USFAS Bamako before beating Kawempe Muslim Ladies 2-1.
Head coach Charles Anokye Frimpong made one change to the side that started the previous match, with Asana Hamidu replacing Victoria Banful.
Ampem Darkoa spent much of the first half under pressure from the Moroccan champions but held firm to reach half-time level. Goalkeeper Rose Teye Baah played a key role, saving a penalty in stoppage time to keep the score at 0-0.
The decisive moment came shortly after the restart when Baah was sent off for a challenge inside the penalty area, resulting in another spot-kick for AS FAR.
AS FAR captain Ghizlane Chebbak converted from 12 yards in the 59th minute to give the holders the lead, according to the Confederation of African Football (CAF).
Despite being reduced to 10 players, Ampem Darkoa pushed forward in search of an equaliser. Rebecca Assemani was unable to take one of their opportunities, before Youssoufi punished a defensive mistake to score AS FAR’s second goal six minutes into added time.
The result was enough to send the Moroccan side through as Group B winners, while Ampem Darkoa’s elimination was confirmed by the outcome of the other match.
Kawempe Muslim Ladies, playing in the competition for the first time, defeated Mali’s USFAS Bamako 3-0 in the group’s simultaneous fixture.
Agnes Nabukenya scored twice, finding the net in the 23rd and 71st minutes, while Jovia Nakagolo added the other goal in the 39th minute.
The victory left AS FAR, Kawempe Muslim Ladies and Ampem Darkoa level on six points. Ampem Darkoa finished third and missed out on qualification because of the head-to-head rules.
The Ghanaian club had reached the tournament for only the second time after qualifying through the WAFU Zone B play-off.
AS FAR will face Lekie Football Filles in Wednesday’s semi-final, while Kawempe Muslim Ladies will meet South Africa’s Mamelodi Sundowns.
