Paris St-Germain forward Khvicha Kvaratskhelia has had successful surgery on a ruptured anterior cruciate ligament in his right knee and will now begin rehabilitation.
The operation was carried out at ASPETAR Hospital in Doha, Qatar, on Tuesday, 27 October, PSG confirmed.
The club has not given a projected return date, meaning Kvaratskhelia’s availability for the rest of the 2026-27 season remains uncertain.
“Khvicha Kvaratskhelia has successfully undergone surgery for a rupture of the anterior cruciate ligament in his right knee at ASPETAR Hospital in Doha, Qatar. He will now begin his rehabilitation,” Paris St-Germain said in a statement.
The Georgia international suffered the injury on 20 October during PSG’s 4-2 Champions League win against Barcelona. Surgery in Qatar was arranged after the diagnosis, with the completed procedure now marking the start of his recovery.
Kvaratskhelia will have to make progress in his rehabilitation before the club can assess when he might return to competitive football. No timetable has yet been confirmed.
His injury is a major blow to the European champions after an outstanding year in which he became one of PSG’s most important attacking players.
Kvaratskhelia finished sixth in the 2026 Ballon d’Or standings, making him the highest-ranked PSG player in the voting. He was placed above team-mates Ousmane Dembele, who was seventh, and Fabian Ruiz, who finished 10th.
The forward did not attend Monday evening’s Ballon d’Or ceremony in London because he was continuing to recover from the injury.
His standing in the awards reflects the scale of the task facing PSG head coach Luis Enrique, who must now find a way to replace Kvaratskhelia’s contribution in attack. The club will need to redistribute his responsibilities while maintaining its attacking output during his absence.
With no confirmed date for his return, PSG must also ensure the players covering his position are not overworked over the coming months.
The club is reportedly examining possible reinforcements ahead of the January transfer window. Sport has reported that PSG are considering Real Betis winger Abdessamad Ezzalzouli, while Foot Mercato says the Parisian side is looking at the possibility of signing a left-sided attacker.
No agreement has been announced, and the reports indicate that PSG are assessing options rather than confirming a transfer. A new arrival could strengthen the club’s attacking depth while Kvaratskhelia rehabilitates.
Luis Enrique also has alternatives within his current squad, with Desire Doue and Mika Godts among the players who could help cover the Georgian forward’s absence.
The immediate priority for PSG will be to preserve the effectiveness of their attack while avoiding excessive demands on a limited number of players during what could be an extended period without Kvaratskhelia.
