The First Deputy Governor of the Bank of Ghana, Dr Zakari Mumuni, has called for closer institutional partnerships, effective risk-sharing and better-prepared projects to attract more Asian investment to West Africa.
Speaking at the High-Level West Africa–Asia Capital Dialogue in Bangkok, Thailand, on Thursday, 15 October 2026, Dr Mumuni said investors needed greater confidence in the region’s policy environment and institutions.
The event took place on the sidelines of the IMF-World Bank Annual Meetings. In his keynote address, Dr Mumuni outlined Ghana’s efforts to stabilise its macroeconomic position and stressed the importance of predictable policies, credible institutions and financing arrangements suited to long-term investment.
He said West Africa offered significant opportunities across agro-processing, manufacturing, energy, transport and logistics, digital services and financial technology.
Dr Mumuni also identified the African Continental Free Trade Area as an important platform for expanding regional trade, attracting investment and supporting wider economic transformation.
“Our responsibility in Africa is to make opportunities more investable. Our partners’ responsibility is to assess those opportunities objectively and work with us to develop commercially viable solutions,” Dr Mumuni said.
He said the focus should now shift from discussion to implementation, with stakeholders encouraged to turn their commitments into actual investments, sustainable business growth and long-term partnerships that deliver shared value for Africa and Asia.
