Nana Konadu makes GMB history as first Bono Region winner

Nana Konadu Nhyiraba Obeng has become the first contestant from the Bono Region to win the Ghana’s Most Beautiful (GMB) crown, ending the region’s 20-year wait for the title.

The 20-year-old from Dormaa Ahenkro claimed the award on October 18, 2026, after a campaign built around culture, identity and the history of Ghanaian communities.

Konadu attended Wesley Girls’ High School, widely known as Wey Gey Hey, and is now a Level 400 student of Communication and Media Studies at the University of Professional Studies, Accra (UPSA).

Away from the stage, she is described as calm and composed. Her performances, however, showed a different side, with Konadu presenting herself as a confident and expressive contestant who sometimes called herself the “beast” to reflect her determination and fearlessness.

Her approach to the competition was shaped by discipline, hard work and integrity. She used her appearances to combine education and entertainment while highlighting Ghanaian heritage.

History, food, cocoa and tourism became central themes in her campaign. Rather than presenting culture simply as a collection of traditions, Konadu explored its links to communities’ past, livelihoods and sense of identity.

Her performances also brought individual recognition. She was named Best Model of the Night during Fashion Night before winning the Star Performer award in Week 10’s One Africa Night, further establishing her as one of the leading contestants.

For One Africa Night, Konadu represented Cote d’Ivoire and examined the country’s shared Akan roots with Ghana. Her presentation included the story of Queen Abla Pokou, as well as references to Cote d’Ivoire’s football culture and the lively dance style Coupe-Decale.

At the grand finale, she opened with a performance focused on the Bono Region’s history, achievements, language and cultural identity. A key part of her message addressed the mockery often aimed at the Bono accent.

Konadu argued that a person’s way of speaking should not be used to assess their intelligence or worth. Her appeal to young people to embrace their identity and refuse to be silenced by ridicule received loud cheers from the audience.

The performance strengthened her reputation for combining stage confidence with purposeful storytelling.

Outside pageantry, Konadu has ambitions in business, influencing, and television presenting and hosting. She is also behind Rising Phoenix, a project designed to provide single mothers and their children with platforms and opportunities through skills development, vocational training and mentorship programs.

As winner, she received a GH₵200,000 cash prize, an MG ZS Deluxe Edition vehicle and other benefits.

Her victory carries added significance for the Bono Region, making her the first contestant from the area to win the Ghana’s Most Beautiful crown. She has also been named the GMB @ 20 Legacy Queen.
