The University of Ghana will reopen for the 2026/2027 academic year on 19 October 2026, with students due to begin reporting to their halls of residence on that date.
The announcement follows the suspension of a month-long strike by the Ghana Association of University Administrators (GAUA) and the Technical University Senior Administrators Association of Ghana (TUSAAG).
In a notice issued on Friday, 16 October, the university said its Business and Executive Committee had approved the reopening timetable at a meeting held that day.
The schedule provides for the random allocation of beds on 16 October. Students can then report to their halls from 19 October, before orientation for freshers takes place between 21 and 23 October.
Lectures are due to start on 26 October 2026.
University Management has asked students to pay the required fees and complete their academic registration online as soon as possible. The process must be completed through the University’s STS or DiGradsys portal, using the prescribed procedures.
It said meeting the registration requirements would help ensure the university reopened smoothly and that lectures began as planned.
The notice was signed by Professor Gordon A. Awandare, Pro Vice-Chancellor for Academic and Student Affairs. Management also thanked students for their cooperation and understanding.
GAUA and TUSAAG instructed their members to return to work on Monday, 19 October 2026, after engagements with the Ministry of Education, the Ministry of Finance and other relevant government institutions.
The associations said the decision followed the government’s resolution of about 80 per cent of their grievances.
The strike began on 10 August and affected administrative operations at public universities and technical universities. Earlier efforts to settle the dispute had not succeeded.
