Richard Ernest Kirk-Mensah has declared his intention to retain his position as Western Regional Communications Officer of the governing National Democratic Congress (NDC), calling on party delegates to back his re-election bid.
He says another term would allow him to build on his work in party communication, strengthen unity and improve grassroots mobilisation across the Western Region.
Mr Kirk-Mensah has linked his campaign to the NDC’s performance in the previous elections, when the party won 15 of the region’s 17 parliamentary seats. He attributes that result to a collective effort involving communication, mobilisation and other aspects of the party’s organisation.
His campaign slogan, “Communicate. Engage. Mobilize,” sets out his priorities: improving the flow of information, increasing internal participation and creating stronger links between the party’s leadership, constituency executives, members and supporters.
Focus on unity and grassroots participation
Mr Kirk-Mensah argues that effective communication is central to the strength and cohesion of a political organisation. He wants party activities, policies and messages to reach members at every level in a timely and effective way.
His campaign also places emphasis on listening to members and encouraging regular interaction between party leaders and grassroots structures. He says communication should not be limited to distributing information, but should promote understanding, strengthen relationships and encourage shared responsibility.
Party unity and grassroots mobilisation are key elements of his appeal to delegates. He believes better-informed and more involved members will be able to work together more effectively towards common objectives and support the NDC’s organisational development.
His proposed strategy would seek closer co-operation between regional leaders, constituency executives and grassroots structures. It is being presented under the theme “A Greater Western Region”, which connects stronger party organisation with the wider aspirations of communities in the region.
Mr Kirk-Mensah says a more co-ordinated communication strategy would help sustain the NDC’s engagement with the people it seeks to represent and reinforce its relationship with communities.
The three parts of his campaign message are intended to work together: “Communicate” means improving information flow, “Engage” involves deeper interaction and participation, while “Mobilize” focuses on bringing members together behind the party’s objectives.
Experience and qualifications
Mr Kirk-Mensah is drawing on experience in public service, disaster management, corporate communication and entrepreneurship as he seeks another term.
He served as a Senior Officer with the National Disaster Management Organisation (NADMO) in the Western Region from June 2013 to 2025, before becoming Head of Communications at the Ghana National Gas Company.
He has also been Chief Executive Officer of Kirk-Komm Ventures since June 2006.
His academic qualifications include a Master of Science (MSc) in Oil and Gas Management from the University of Cape Coast, obtained between 2015 and 2016, and an MSc in Crisis, Emergency and Disaster Management from the same university, completed between 2013 and 2015.
He is currently studying for a master’s degree in Strategic Public Relations at the University of Media, Arts and Communication.
As the NDC prepares for its regional executive elections, Mr Kirk-Mensah is asking delegates to renew their confidence in him. He says his priorities for a further term are stronger communication structures, greater unity, deeper grassroots engagement and improved mobilisation across the Western Region.
