President John Dramani Mahama has pledged continued government support for Ghanaian companies, including access to finance, infrastructure and a business environment that allows them to grow and compete.
Speaking on Thursday, October 8, at the commissioning of an expanded evaporated milk production line at Nestle Ghana Limited, Mr Mahama said local businesses were central to the country’s economic development.
“My administration will continue to provide the enabling environment, the financing and infrastructure that Ghanaian businesses also need to rise,” he said.
The President said his government was taking steps to make operating in Ghana easier and more predictable. Those measures include simplifying customs procedures, reviewing the tax incentive framework and digitising public services.
He pointed to Nestle’s development in Ghana as evidence of the opportunities available to companies that establish and expand their operations in the country. The business began as a trading company before developing into a major enterprise, he said.
Mr Mahama called on Nestle Ghana to strengthen its links with local farmers and suppliers, while continuing to create opportunities for young people.
He described the expanded production facility as an example of what could be achieved when businesses and the country work together.
“This plant is a monument to what partnership, purpose and patriotism can achieve together,” he said.
The investment community was also told that Ghana remained open for business. Mr Mahama declared that the country was “back” and “working again”.
He subsequently formally commissioned the expanded evaporated milk production line at Nestle Ghana Limited.
The new facility will increase Nestle Ghana’s annual production capacity from about 12,960 tonnes to nearly 30,000 tonnes.
Mr Mahama said the expansion reflected rising confidence in Ghana and supported his government’s 24-Hour Economy agenda.
