Ghana’s Public Accounts Committee (PAC) has begun a public hearing into selected reports from the 2025 Auditor-General, focusing on financial and tax irregularities linked to the Ministry of Local Government, Chieftaincy and Religious Affairs and its Departments and Agencies.
The Committee examined three reports during the hearing and sought explanations from the institutions concerned. It also pressed those responsible to account for the issues identified and outline steps to address them.
The reports under review concerned the Birth and Death Registry, the Institute of Local Government Studies and a follow-up assessment of DACF-RFG infrastructure projects carried out in 30 Metropolitan, Municipal and District Assemblies.

PAC Chairperson Abena Osei Asare said the Committee had received 23 reports in total. They comprise 10 statutory reports, 11 performance audit reports and two special reports.
However, two of the reports have been withdrawn while they await formal re-submission.
One is the special audit report on the Ghana Embassy in Washington, D.C., covering the period from 2017 to 2025. The other concerns the 13th All African Games.
Ms Asare reiterated the Committee’s position that accountability must be pursued without delay and on the basis of reliable information.
She said the process needed to be urgent, but stressed that urgency must be matched by accuracy and credibility.
