New Patriotic Party (NPP) delegates have been urged not to remove all of the party’s serving national executives solely because of its defeat in the 2024 general election.
Kojo Oppong Nkrumah, the Member of Parliament for Ofoase Ayirebi, said the election result should not be treated as proof that every member of the current national executive performed poorly.
He made the appeal while speaking to the media at the NPP National Delegates Congress at the Baba Yara Sports Stadium in Kumasi on Saturday, October 3, 2026.
“Yes, we lost the elections; however, it doesn’t mean every executive was bad. That’s why we lost. The party knows why we lost. We have done our checks and are going to correct them,” he stated.
The NPP is using the congress to elect its national officers, with delegates deciding which candidates will retain their positions and which new contenders will join the party’s leadership.
Mr Oppong Nkrumah said those seeking re-election had shown that they possessed the ability to help the party prepare for the 2028 general election.
“The people who are contesting for the election have what it takes to deliver for NPP in the 2028 elections. At this time, let’s allow the delegates to take their decision,” he said.
His comments come as delegates assess the candidates individually rather than treating the party’s 2024 electoral loss as a verdict on every serving national executive.
The congress in Kumasi will determine the composition of the NPP’s next group of national officers. Delegates are also considering a number of proposed amendments to the party’s constitution.
