Motorbike thief jailed four years

Wa, Sept 10, GNA – The Circuit at Wa on Friday sentenced a former student of the Jirapa Day Senior Secondary School to four years in prison in hard labour for stealing a motorbike.

Evans Kog-Yiri, 19, pleaded guilty to the charge of stealing. Prosecuting, Chief Inspector Paul Ansu-Frimpong told the Court presided over by Alhaji Mohammed Mustapha that the complainant, Abdulai Iddrisu, a Wa-based businessman, on August 28, 2004 at about 7030 hours parked his motorbike at the Wa Main Lorry Station and went to transact business.

Chief Insp Ansu-Frimpong said the complainant latter realised that his motorbike was stolen and he reported the matter to the police at Wa.

The prosecutor said upon several announcements on the two Local FM Radio stations at Wa concerning the theft, the complainant received information that his motorbike was at fitting workshop at Jirapa. Chief Insp Ansu-Frimpong said when the complainant contacted the owner of the workshop; he told him (complainant) that the suspect brought it to him for repair works.

The prosecutor said the suspect was arrested when he went to the workshop to take delivery of the motorbike. Kog-Yiri confessed he committed the crime but attributed it to the work of the devil.
