Absolute ban on corporal punishment in schools endangers children’s future – Proprietor

Mr. Ernest Oppong, the Proprietor of Minefield School of Excellence in Dormaa Ahenkro, located in the Bono Region, has advocated for the reintroduction of measurable corporal punishment in schools as a means to shape students and pupils for a more promising future. He observed that the complete avoidance of corporal punishment in schools has led to the emergence of recalcitrant students and other negative behavioral tendencies.

He cited the Bible’s endorsement of using canes to guide children towards a decent and righteous life, thus underscoring the importance of reconsidering corporal punishment in schools to address the increasing instances of disrespect among students and the youth more broadly. He further emphasized the necessity for teachers to exercise restraint and discretion when employing corporal punishment as a corrective measure.

Mr. Ernest Oppong urged teachers to exhibit a sense of humor, love, and compassion towards pupils and students, while also providing the necessary educational support for them.

He underscored that the teaching profession requires dedication and consistency, and that individuals who choose to become teachers must exert effort to effectively shape their students for a brighter future. He emphasized that teachers who are fully committed to enhancing their students’ knowledge ultimately receive blessings and support from those students as they advance in life. Therefore, teachers must demonstrate commitment in fulfilling their professional responsibilities.
