“Let’s Rally Behind the Black Queens” – MP Urges National Support Ahead of AFCON Clash with Algeria

As the Black Queens gear up for their crucial quarterfinal clash against Algeria in the 2024 CAF Women’s Africa Cup of Nations, Deputy Ranking Member on the Parliamentary Select Committee on Sports, Michael Kwesi Aidoo, is calling on Ghanaians to rally behind the national women’s football team.

Ghana will take on Algeria on Saturday, July 19 at 16:00 GMT in Morocco, with a semifinal spot at stake. A victory would see the Queens face either host nation Morocco in the next round.

In an exclusive interview with Citi Sports, Mr. Aidoo commended the team for their impressive performance so far and assured that Parliament is committed to supporting the women’s side with the resources and motivation they need to go all the way.

“We are all supporting the Black Queens. It is always a proud moment watching any national team perform so well,” he said.

Reflecting on the team’s recent performances, Aidoo added: “Their last game was very good, it was a moment of pride watching how they’ve been playing. I support them fully and I encourage every Ghanaian to do the same. The women are also flying our flag high, so we should all support them.”

The Black Queens have shown determination and skill in their campaign, rekindling hopes of reclaiming their place among Africa’s elite in women’s football. Their performance has drawn praise across the political and sporting spectrum.

With growing public enthusiasm, today’s match promises to be more than a game, it’s shaping up as a national moment of unity and pride.
