NPP is not interested in rigging elections – Botwe

Adansi-Asokwa (Ash), Aug. 23, GNA – Mr Dan Botwe, General Secretary of the New Patriotic Party (NPP), on Saturday said the Party was not interested in rigging Election 2004. He said: “We do not know how to rig elections and we are not interested in learning how to rig. We are clear in the lead and our Party will not do anything to disturb a free, fair and peaceful elections.”

Mr Botwe, who was addressing the Adansi-Asokwa Constituency Delegates’ Conference of the Party at Asokwa, said the NPP Government was the best for the country.

He said, since the fundamental objective of a political party was to win elections; the NPP had initiated strategies to enable it to win the elections.

Mr Botwe said: “We are going to train all the five poling station executives at all the zones to equip them with skills to enable them to effectively campaign.”

He explained that the National Executive of the Party would not in any way impose parliamentary candidates on the constituencies. “We do not impose candidates on people, even with Mr J. H. Mensah, we have not imposed him on his people as five other people are contesting with him.”

Mr Botwe said the NPP never told Ghanaians that it was going to solve all the country’s problems within fours and urged Party members to guard against the campaign of lies being traded by the National Democratic Congress (NDC).

He advised the Adansi-Asokwa Constituency members of the NPP to rally behind the MP for the area, stressing: “We need commitment from you, the Polling Station Executives”.

Mr Joe Boampong, Obuasi Municipal Chief Executive, said the NPP had already won the elections but what was left was to defeat the NDC with a very wide margin.

The MP for Adansi-Asokwa, Mr K.T. Hammond said the benefits the country was deriving from the Highly Indebted Poor Countries (HIPC) Initiative reflected the political will of the Government to improve the country’s economy.
