Mampong (Ash), Aug. 22, GNA – The Sekyere West District Assembly has for the past three years, spent about 15 million cedis to support the education of 10 blind students at the Akropong School for the Blind. The assembly has also provided two of the 10 blind students with Braille machines at a cost of 10 million cedis.
Mr Samuel Okyere Kusi Appiah, the District Co-ordinating Director said this when the beneficiary students called on him at his office to express their appreciation to the assembly.
The assembly has also assisted 25 physically challenged people in the district to acquire skills in the rearing of grass cutter and snails.
”This forms part of the assembly’s poverty reduction strategy.” He told the students that they should not allow their disability to bog them down but should strive to attain the utmost in education. Mr Joseph Osei, a spokesman for the beneficiary students, expressed their appreciation to the assembly for its sensitivity towards their plight.
He appealed to Ghanaians to avoid conflicts and embrace democracy as the engine of peace, stability and national development.
