The outspoken NPP Former Constituency Youth Organizer for Kintampo North and Chairman of the Bono East Regional Youth Wing Hon. Joseph Nyindam Nanga, popularly Mutumina, has advised the NPP to consider Dr. Bawumia as their choice if they want to win power in the 2028 General elections.
Speaking on Nkoranza-Based Sompa TV, He said the 60 members of Parliament who visited the former Flagbearer to offer support ahead of the 31st January 2026, Presidential Primaries of the party have done the needful to make the candidate look fearful and formidable to the political opponents in the 2028 General elections.
According to him, Dr. Bawumia’s performance in the 2024 elections as a first timer was not abysmal as asserted by some political figures within the party.
He added that, NPP has had four presidential candidates in the 4th Republic from 1992, Prof. Adu Boahen, former President John Agyekum Kuffour, former president Nana Addo Dankwa Akufo-Addo, and former Vice President Dr Mahamud Bawumia.
“As a first timer, Dr Bawumia pulled 64.47%, which was the highest among all the first-time presidential candidates of the party’s Presidential Primaries, i.e., Prof Adu Boahen in 1992, JA Kuffour in 1996, and Nana Addo in 2008. When it comes to the general elections, except Nana Addo, who got a higher percentage (49.77%) in the 2008 general elections than Dr Bawumia, who got (41.61%) in 2024 as a first timer. When it comes to the number of votes in figures, Dr Bawumia got 4,67,304 compared to Nana Addo’s 4,480,446. The rest, Prof Adu Boahen, got 30.29% in 1992 while JA Kuffour got 39.67% in 1996.” He said.
Speaking on the decision of the National Council of the party on the tentative date for the Presidential Primaries, our party Constitution which was duly registered on 24th June 1992, amended on 29th August 1998, again amended on 22nd August 2009 and finally on 17th December 2017 states in article 13, how the party should elect our Presidential Candidate. It is not done to favour any presidential hopeful.
“Let’s not forget as a party that any candidate we will elect to lead our party is going to campaign on the success of Nana-Bawumia achievements in government. So, if we allow Dr. Bawumia to lead us to tell this story, it may be better placed than anyone within the party.” He added.
He also carries an institutional memory of both Party and Government, which is a resource to utilize. He is active and still prepared to lead and should be given the chance.
He cautioned the patriots the need to unite around the elephant and their party colors in order to win the 2028 general elections.
He further said, he believes Dr. Mahamud Bawumia and the NPP will win the 2028 elections with a majority of Members of Parliament and form the next government to make Ghana work again.
