Over 60 NPP MPs Declare Support for Bawumia’s Presidential Bid

Over 60 New Patriotic Party (NPP) Members of Parliament have paid a courtesy call on former Vice President, Dr. Mahamudu Bawumia, to declare their support for his presidential bid for the 2028 election.

The visit on Thursday, June 19, 2025, comes after the NPP set its presidential primaries for January 31, 2026.

Currently, Dr. Bawumia and four other NPP stalwarts, including Assin Central MP Kennedy Ohene Agyapong, Minister for Agriculture Bryan Acheampong, and Minister for Education Dr. Yaw Osei Adutwum, have declared their intention to contest the flagbearer position.

But it has emerged that more than 60 out of the 88 NPP parliamentarians support Dr. Bawumia’s candidacy.

Some MPs who were present for Thursday’s visit included Karaga MP and former Finance Minister, Mohammed Amin Adam, Ofoase-Ayirebi MP, Kojo Oppong Nkrumah, Akuapem North MP, Sammi Awuku, Techiman South MP, Martin Adjei-Mensah Korsah, Tolon MP and Minority Chief Whip, Habib Iddrisu, and Manhyia South MP, Nana Adjei Baffour Awuah.

The delegation held a closed-door meeting with Dr. Bawumia.
