Founding NPP Member Blasts Leadership Over “Unconstitutional” Flagbearer Selection

Dr. Nyaho Nyaho-Tamakloe, a founding member of the New Patriotic Party (NPP), has strongly criticised the party’s decision to elect a presidential candidate before restructuring its internal leadership. He described the move as unconstitutional and a strategic misstep that risks deepening internal divisions.

Speaking candidly, Dr. Nyaho-Tamakloe argued that the decision to proceed with flagbearer selection without first reorganising national, regional, constituency, and polling station executives contradicts the NPP’s own constitution. “In a party that has just lost a major election, it is critical to conduct a thorough analysis of what went wrong,” he stated. “Rushing to elect a presidential candidate without honest reflection is a mistake.”

The veteran politician expressed concerns that the process appears biased toward a specific individual, sidelining the voices of prominent party members who have raised valid concerns. He further questioned the credibility of the current party leadership, which he holds accountable for the NPP’s significant defeat in the 2024 general elections.

“The leadership that led the party into defeat cannot be trusted to conduct a credible process that aims at returning the party to power in 2028,” Dr. Nyaho-Tamakloe remarked.

He called for a transparent and inclusive approach to rebuilding the party, one that strictly adheres to the NPP’s constitution. According to him, such measures are crucial if the party hopes to regain the trust of its members and the electorate.

The NPP’s internal politics has been under intense scrutiny as the party gears up for the 2028 elections. With this public criticism from one of its founding members, the party faces mounting pressure to address internal issues and restore cohesion ahead of the next electoral cycle.
