Ghanaian Striker Joseph Barnes Released by Belgian Club St Truiden After Two-Year Spell

Belgian top-flight club St Truiden have confirmed the departure of Ghanaian forward Joseph Barnes, who will leave the club at the end of June when his contract expires.

The 23-year-old striker, who joined the club in 2023, has not been offered a new deal and will become a free agent this summer.

Barnes, who also holds German nationality, made limited appearances during his two-year stint in the Jupiler Pro League, struggling to cement a regular spot in the first team.

Though he showed flashes of potential, particularly in cup fixtures and with the club’s reserves, injuries and fierce competition for places saw his opportunities limited.

In a short statement, St Truiden thanked Barnes for his “professionalism and dedication” during his time at the club and wished him well in his future career.

The Accra-born forward began his youth career in Germany before making the move to Belgium, and he is now expected to explore opportunities elsewhere in Europe or possibly return to a domestic league with more regular playing time.
