Make land available to us – African-Americans

Aburi (E/R), Aug. 17, The Wayne Country Commissioner, State of Michigan, Mr Kwame Kenyatta on Tuesday urged the various governments and people of Africa, particularly, chiefs who were the custodians of lands to make some land available to them without hitches so that they could return to live peacefully in their motherland.

He noted that the issue of acquisition of land by African-Americans was a big challenge and a hindrance to their final return to their roots.

“Some of us, who managed to acquire lands and developed them are still battling with some chiefs at the law courts.”

Mr Kenyatta, who led a delegation from the US to the inauguration, of an ICT Centre for the Aburi Presbyterian Training College, suggested to the Heads of State in Africa to create ‘land banks’ where there would be enough land to enable the African-American to easily acquire some land.

He said African governments should also make arrangement of granting citizenship to African-American citizens for them to really feel proud at home when they came back to their roots.

He said, “we in the Diaspora do not intend to stay in Africa and cause any trouble and there should not be any fear that we would be here to take over any country as happened in Liberia some time ago. “We are here to work, explore business opportunities and enhance the lives of our brothers and sisters and to impress on them to stay in Africa and help build it without thinking of leaving for greener pastures abroad,” Mr Kenyatta said.
