Driver arrested with GH¢1m cash hidden in fertiliser bags at Juapong

The Volta Regional Police Command has impounded a Ford Transit bus loaded with 68 fertiliser bags containing GH¢1,021,700 in one cedi notes and coins.

The operation took place at approximately 4:45 pm on Tuesday, 3rd June 2025, during a routine snap check at Juapong.

In a press release, the Police explained that the vehicle was en route to Kumasi in the Ashanti Region from Ho in the Volta Region when it was stopped.

The driver of the vehicle, identified as Edward Ansah, is currently in police custody.

The Police noted that initial questioning, Ansah claimed he had been contracted by an unnamed individual in Kumasi to transport the large sum of cash.

Authorities have not yet disclosed the purpose of the transfer or the source of the funds. The nature of the concealment, using fertiliser bags, has raised suspicion, and investigations are ongoing.
