‘I exposed the rot they left, why wouldn’t he attack me’ – NAPO ‘fires’ Mahama

Education Minister, Dr. Matthew Opoku-Prempeh has once again thrown jabs at his predecessor, Professor Jane Naana Opoku-Agyemang and former president, John Mahama.

Dr. Opoku Prempeh described the performance of the Mahama’s administration as very poor during their tenure in government.

In an interview with Nana Aba Anamoah on the State of Affairs show on GHOne TV, he stated that the former president Mahama decided to chide him because his corrupt moves have been exposed.

The Minister emphasized, “I exposed the rot he left, why wouldn’t he attack me? I wish the former president could have said he made budgetary allowances for the buses and it wasn’t paid for. I don’t listen to these things. I don’t fall for such things.”

“The former minister was also roaming from radio station to radio station lambasting the government that she’s seeing no policy document and budgetary line with regards to the free SHS and the buses.”

“She said she started the free SHS yet she could not produce the policy document for it and also for the buses. If she said she started it she should show us the policy document. Where is it? I was expecting her to contribute positively, not to turn into a propaganda outfit.’’

Background

In a statement released on Monday, the office of former President John Mahama said the comments by Dr. Mathew Opoku-Prempeh were “arrogant” and reflects his frustrations at delivering on his mandate.

“I guess his comments are borne more out of arrogance and the realisation that the standards set by Professor Opoku-Agyemang at the Education Ministry are far higher for him to stand up to, let alone surpass,” the statement signed by John Mahama’s special aide, Joyce Bawa Mogtari, said.

“What kind of arrogance would make a trainee-Minister who is still struggling to understand the mandate of his office, declare that a world-renowned and experienced educationist does not know anything about education?” the statement quizzed.
