Fisherman jailed 10 years for robbing Dutch national

A fisherman, Kwabla Kpodo of Tsokome in the Volta region, is to spend the next ten years in jail for robbing a Dutch national of his backpack containing the sum of GH¢350 and personal items.

Kpodo who pleaded guilty to the charge of robbery before the Accra Circuit Court on Tuesday, was said to have violently attacked Evert V. Uffelen, a Netherlands citizen, while walking along the shores of Tsokome beach on November 18, 2017.

The Court heard that at the time of the robbery, the black backpack contained the victim’s national passport, assorted bank cards, one wrist watch, a sunglass, a pair of slippers and the sum of GH¢350.

While Kpodo bolted, the victim raised an alarm but no one came to his aid. The case was later the same day reported to the police, whose investigations led to the arrest of Kpodo at his hideout at Tsokome. The police were able to retrieve the Netherlands passport, assorted bank cards and other documents.

Kpodo is said to have admitted the offence and mentioned one Castro as his accomplice and the one who ordered him to attack the complainant. He, however, failed to identify his alleged accomplice to the police.
