Ajumako (C/R), Aug. 7, GNA – Facilities at the Ajumako School of Languages are being rehabilitated and upgraded to a University status and affiliated to the University of Education, Winneba (UEW). President John Agyekum Kufour announced this during a courtesy call on Nana Kwamena Ahana Ababio, Omanhene of the Ajumako Traditional Area on the first day of his two-day official visit to the Central Region on Friday.
He said upgrading of the school would not only improve the quality of teaching and learning of languages but would also offer more employment for the people in the area.
President Kufuor asked chiefs to release more lands for the President’s Special Initiative (PSI) on Cassava and Oil Palm, while the government assist the farmers with the inputs.
He appealed to chiefs to endeavour that, all issues that had affected the chieftaincy institution were settled amicably through the traditional councils, the various regional houses of chiefs and the National House of Chiefs and not resort to courts.
Nana Ababio appealed to the government to review the chieftaincy Act 370 of 1971 and establish a separate ministry for the institution to address chieftaincy issues before the courts and bring sanity to the institution.
He further appealed to the government for the establishment of a PSI on Oil Palm because the area has fertile lands for the crop.
