CID petitioned over defilement of 4-year-old

The Alliance for Women in Media Africa (AWMA) has petitioned the Director General of the CID to transfer the case involving the alleged defilement of a four-year-old girl to the National Police Headquarters in Accra.

The girl is currently battling for her life after she was defiled by an 18-year-old man, Kwabena, a farmer at Assin Adadientaim in the Assin South district of the Central region.

According to the mother of the victim, Monica Darkoh, the suspect came to their home and baited the victim with coconut when she had gone to a funeral.

The suspect who is currently on the run took the 4-year-old victim to a toilet facility near the village and defiled her. The victim who collapsed during the act is currently receiving treatment at the Assin Fosu St Francis Hospital.

Condemning the act, AWMA stressed it wants the case to be moved to Accra because the local police at Assin have been “lackadaisical” in handling the issue.

It also called for the “immediate arrest of the suspect” pending full investigations while advocating for special medical attention for the victim in Accra by the Social Welfare Department and the Gender Ministry.

The chief of the town has come under severe public backlash for ruling that the suspect is innocent, having consulted the gods.
