Man jailed for stealing mobile phone

Sekondi, July 23, GNA- A Sekondi District Magistrate’s court on Thursday sentenced Kofi Asmah to 30 days’ imprisonment in hard labour for stealing a mobile phone.

Asmah who pleaded guilty was ordered by the court to pay 300,000 cedis to the complainant, Sophia Buah, to buy a chip to replace the one stolen by the accused.

Police Chief Inspector Joe Hedidor said at about 1230 hours on July 20, this year, Asmah who lived at Kwesimintsim near Takoradi went to Inchaban near Sekondi.

He said the accused went to the complainant’s provision store and bought a sachet of water and when he left the store the complainant detected that her Siemens cell phone was missing.

Chief Inspector Hedidor said the complainant traced the accused to a vehicle he boarded to Takoradi, and the when she confronted the accused about the mobile phone; he removed it from his pocket and gave it to her.

Chief Inspector Hedidor said later, the complainant found that the phone’s chip has been removed. She therefore reported the matter to the police.
