Review Policy On Student Sponsorship – Planning Officer

Goaso (B/A), July 16, GNA – Mr Erasmus Afrane, Asunafo District Planning Officer has called for the opening of a debate on the District Assemblies’ obligatory financial support for teacher trainees and tertiary students from their shares of the Common Fund.

Mr Afrane explained that the number of students, coupled with delays in the release of the Fund had hampered the smooth running of the programme.

Speaking at a fund-raising rally organized by the University of Cape Coast branch of the Ahafo Students Union at Goaso, he suggested the establishment of subsidies to the educational institutions to be accessed by the students instead.

Mr Afrane announced that the Assembly would spend 100 million cedis this year on students as against last year’s 50 million cedis. He urged the student beneficiaries to bear with the Assembly, as the mode of distribution was sometimes fraught with difficulties including the identification of needy students.
