Court convicts Ashaiman based thief

Tema, July 16, GNA – The Tema Circuit Court ‘B’, has imposed a two-year jail term on a 20-year-old man, who stole three pieces of aluminium roofing sheets, valued at 270,000 cedis from a school block.

Mohammed Salifu, pleaded guilty to stealing, while his accomplice, Victor Amevor, a 25-year-old scrap dealer who pleaded not guilty for dishonestly receiving, was granted 20 million cedis bail.

The Prosecutor, Police Inspector Teye Matey, told the Court that on July 6, this year, the Head teacher of the Mustapha Islamic Basic School at Ashaiman detected the theft of the roofing sheets and conducted investigations which led him to the shop of the scrap dealer were the items were found.

Victor told the Head teacher that it was Mohammed who sold the roofing sheets to him for 180,000 cedis. Inspector Matey said the case was reported to the Ashaiman police and Victor led the police to arrest Mohammed who admitted the offence. 16 July 04
