Chinese Parliamentary delegation calls on Speaker

Accra, July 12, GNA – The Speaker of Parliament, Mr. Peter Ala Adjetey, Monday said it was imperative for Ghana to learn from the Chinese experience if the development process of Ghana was to be speeded up. He said, “I was highly impressed with the rate of development and industrialisation in China on our visit to China last year and I believe Ghana will need to copy China’s example for our development process to move that fast.”

The Speaker made the remark when an eight-member Chinese National People’s Congress (NPC) led by Mr. Wu Lianyuan, Vice-Chairman of the Ethnic Group Committee of the NPC, called on him.

Mr Adjetey recalled exchange of visits between delegations from Ghana’s Parliament to China and from China’s NPC to Ghana and said, “it is my hope that through such visits we would be helping each other to develop.”

Mr. Lianyuan said Ghana was a beautiful country and its people are very hospitable and friendly, adding “on our visit to various tourist attractions over the past two days we experienced the warm feeling of Ghanaians towards our people.”

He said, “We also realised that Ghana is developing very fast and we are confident that with mutual support our two countries would realise the desired prosperity.”

The delegation witnessed proceedings in the House, briefly.
