Two agencies to open new offices in Upper West Region

Two government agencies, the Passport Authority and the Ghana Exports Promotion Council will open new offices in the Upper West Region to help reduce the burden on travellers and boost business transactions.

The absence of the two agencies affected the acquisition of passports and documents to carry out business transactions.

Mr. Amidu Chinnia Issahaku, Deputy Upper West Regional Minister, announced this at the first ordinary meeting of the Wa Municipal Assembly on Wednesday.

He said the Regional Coordinating Council valued the importance of the two agencies and was doing everything possible to facilitate the processes for them to be located in the Region to help reduce challenges some business persons were facing.

People have to travel outside the Region to acquire passports and other relevant documents for the exportation of goods and services, a situation he said was deterring business promotion between the Region and neighbouring countries.

Mr. Issahaku, appealed to the various district assemblies to participate actively in the promotion of businesses in the communities to help enhance economic livelihoods.

He also urged members of the Assembly to take serious interest in the development process of the people devoid of individual, politics, and religious considerations.

“Our goal should be focused on issues that bring about development in education, health, and agriculture as well as the economic prosperity among others,” he advised.

On security, Mr. Issahaku expressed gratitude to the people of the Region and also to the Ministry of the Interior and the Inspector General of Police for responding to the appeals of the Regional Security Council to provide more police officers to the region.

He said so far, 200 police officers had been posted to the Region to augment the dwindling numbers to help maintain law and order.
