CSIR produces special fertiliser

Awutu-Bawjiase (C/R), May 25, GNA – The Council for Scientific and Industrial Research (CSIR) has produced special fertiliser from the residue of industrial starch produced by the Ayensu Starch Company at Awutu-Bawjiase (ASCO).

Nai Kweku Osardu II, Bawjiasehene and a supervisor of the company disclosed this to the Ghana News Agency in an interview at Awutu-Bawjiase on Sunday.

According to Nai Osardu, some of the fertiliser is currently being experimented on maize farms established by the company around the factory.

He said, aside of the chaff, which is also produced from the cassava used by the factory, is also being utilised for the production of mushrooms and therefore recommended it to mushroom farmers in the Awutu-Effutu-Senya, Agona and Gomoa districts to take advantage of the facility to produce more mushrooms for sale.

He said traditional rulers and people of the Awutu Traditional Area have no regret in accepting the President’s decision to establish the industrial cassava starch-processing factory at Bawjiase.

Nai Osardu advised people in and outside Bawjiase not to play politics with the starch factory, adding that, just like cocoa, everything would be “Okay” for cassava farmers, who own the company when the company picks up economically.

He said the future of the company looks bright and it is for farmers who have registered with the company to exercise great restraint and muster the necessary courage to turn off the lies of detractors whose main target was to kill farmers’ interest in the company. Nai Osardu said with the establishment of the factory, cassava growers in the area now have the hope that their efforts would never be in vain, because their produce would have ready market as soon as they harvest.
