An Accra tribunal adjourned to July 15, a case in which Kofi Adjei Assenso, trader is charged with stealing 5.9 million cedis belonging to a colleague. Assenso, also charged with issuing a dud cheque to cover the money, pleaded not guilty and was granted 10 million cedis bail.

Police Chief Inspector Alice Takyiwa told the tribunal, chaired by Mrs Owusu Arhin, that on June 3rd, last year, Mr Godfred Asante, a friend to Assenso went with the accused to supply a quantity of brass hinges, costing 20 million cedis, to a customer at North Kaneshie.

The prosecution said the customer paid Mr Asante 13.5 million cedis, leaving 6.5 million cedis to be collected later. Assenso managed to collect the amount from the customer in the name of Mr Asante and made use of it. When he was confronted, he issued a post-dated cheque on April six to Mra Asante but it was dishonoured. gri
