IMO Secretary-General Calls On High Commissioner

Mr. Efthimios Mitropoulos, Secretary-General of the International Maritime Organisation (IMO) has paid a courtesy call on H.E. Mr. Isaac Osei, Ghana?s High Commissioner to the UK at his office in London.

The visit was to enable him to share ideas with Heads of Diplomatic Missions of member countries in London.

During discussions, the two pledged to continue to work together to enhance the noble objectives of the organisation for the mutual advantage of member countries.

They endorsed the need for the co-existence of powerful and small states within the organisation to continue to work together to ensure peace and prosperity for all.

Mr. Mitropoulos noted the immense contribution being made by the Ghana Maritime Academy based in Accra and added that graduates turned out from the Academy continued to provide qualitative service for the maritime industry.

Mr. Isaac Osei told the Secretary-General that Ghana would continue to discharge its obligations within the framework of the IMO mechanism.

He said Ghana had signed all protocols relating to issues on safety at sea and pollution and thanked the Secretary-General for the various technical assistance his organisation had in the past given to Ghana.

He urged the IMO to offer developing countries model legislation which it could adapt into domestic law, among other things, to control drug trafficking at sea.
