Rainstorm hits Nsawam, destroys roof of CYO office

Nsawam (E/R), April 28, GNA- A rainstorm which hit Nsawam early this month, ripped off the roof of the headquarters and training centre of the Catholic Youth Organisation (CYO) at Nsawam.

The building was put up about 52 years ago.

The centre also serves as a recreational and social centre for the youth and people of Nsawam and other parts of the country.

Conducting newsmen and the Akuapem South District Chief Executive, Mr Andrew Nyarku-Adu to assess the damage, Mr Victor Quaye-Foli, National Organising Secretary of the CYO and administrator of the place, said the Centre was formally used as the camping ground for the Black Stars in the 1960s.

He said the place had been without electricity and the facilities at the centre could not be used, saying it would need about 400 million cedis to put the centre back into use.

Mr Quaye-Foli said the incident was the second to hit the centre in 20 years and appealed to wellwishers to come to the aid of the centre.

Mr Nyaku-Adu said since the centre also serves as a community centre, the District Assembly is doing all that it could to support the CYO to put the centre back to use.
