NPP Officials call for holding of primaries in Gomoa West

Apam (C/R) April 11, GNA – The Gomoa West Constituency Women’s Organiser of the New Patriotic Party (NPP) Miss Grace Okoe, has appealed to the leadership of the party to fix a date for the holding of primaries to elect a parliamentary candidate for the area.

Miss Okoe, popularly called ” Santana,” said with the voters’ registration exercise over, the primaries could be held early to avoid it coinciding with other programmes of the Electoral Commission.

Making the appeal through the Ghana News Agency at Apam, the Constituency Women’s Organiser said the holding of the event would end acrimony and tension, which had characterized the campaign of the supporters of the candidates contesting the primaries.

“On a number of occasions some of us have to hold the supporters at check to prevent them from taking the law into their own hands,” she said. Miss Okoe said apart from the delay, causing a drain on the resources of the aspiring candidates it was also affecting party organization and campaign since the constituency was an orphan.

Mrs. Ama Benyiwa-Doe, the incumbent MP of the National Democratic Congress is to contest the seat on the party’s ticket. Six persons are to contest the NPP primaries.
