Bawku (U/E), March 31, GNA – The Bawku Hospital Workers’ Co-operatives Credit Union (BAWCCU), made a total savings of 127 million cedis last year, as against 62.8 million cedis in 2002, representing an increase of 54.6 per cent.

Mr. Emmanuel A. Awuni, Chairman of the Union, who announced this at the 8th Annual General Meeting (AGM) of the Union at Bawku at the weekend, indicated that membership also rose from 286 to 297, an increase of 3.85 per cent.

He made it known that the Union also disbursed loans totalling 90 million cedis to its members to acquire lands, means of transport, build houses and expand their businesses.

Mr. Awuni stated that these facilities have contributed immensely to raise the living standards of the union members and improved productivity of beneficiaries.

The Zonal Manager of Credit Union Associations for Northern and Upper East Regions, Mr. Fiawoo, urged the union members to increase their share value to make the union more viable to enable them to access more loans.

He said when this is done they could undertake larger ventures to cushion any uncertainty during retirement.

Awards were presented to the highest savers and pioneers for their foresight and meritorious services to the union.
