‘I never had presidential ambitions’ – Hanna Tetteh

Former Minister of Foreign Affairs and Regional Integration, Hanna Tetteh, has revealed that she never nursed the idea of running as presidential candidate stating that she “never had presidential ambitions”.

According to her, she realised after working with two former presidents when they were in office that it was “not an easy job” to run the country.

She said a president’s daily duties require a lot of energy and the “pressure individuals put on the president to take one decision or the other” does not make it stress-free.

The former legislator for Awutu Senya West said she sometimes wondered “if people really understand what they are asking for when they say they want to be president”.

She was of the view that within the political setting of Ghana it is convenient for a political party to have broad consultations and select a candidate whom all the members can support.

“Based on those consultations, that person is then encouraged to put themselves up because the party has confidence in their leadership,” she added in an interview with Radio XYZ on Tuesday, May 2.
