MP urges constituents to work towards open defecation free status

The Member of Parliament (MP) for Salaga North Constituency Alhaji Alhassan Mumuni has called on his constituents to take sanitation seriously as Ghana fights to achieve open defecation free status.

Alhaji Alhassan Mumuni gave the advice when he addressed the people of Jidanturu as part of activities marking his thank you tour in his constituency. He said government has a challenge in terms of resources which makes it difficult to fulfill the policy of getting Community-based Health Planning and Service (CHPS) compounds in most scheduled places in the community and that the people should keep their surroundings clean to avert contracting filth related diseases.

“Government and other NGOs are fighting to ensure we attain an open defecation free status by 2018 and I challenge you to also challenge yourselves to ensure you get household latrines and as well practice good personal hygiene to keep you away from contracting diseases associated with filth in our homes and the community at large “.He advised

The lawmaker also informed them to try to organize communal labour at least once a month to clean around their communities and dispose of refuse.

“Communal labour is the finest and unified activity that brings as together to work with a common sense of purpose “he added.

He asked them to make sure they renew their Health Insurance cards in order to enjoy the National Health Insurance Scheme (NHIS).

The MP who promised his contribution to constituents to help address their challenges urging them to keep faith in him reiterates his resolve not to disappoint them.
