Over 850 children immunised at Asamama

Akim-Asamama (E/R), March 12, GNA – At least 850 children between one and five years were immunised at Akim-Asamama in the East Akim district against poliomyelitis as part of the national exercise to rid the country of the disease. Those immunized were from Abrenya, Nkurakan, Abrusu-Atifi and Abrasuso communities, Mr John Boafo, leader of the immunization team told the Ghana News Agency.

Mr Boafo called for intensified public education, especially among rural communities to create the necessary awareness on the programme to ensure that all eligible children were immunized.

The Area Committee chairman, Mr Kwadwo Obeng, commended the government and the immunisation team for the effort to eradicate the disease.

He urged parents and the local authorities to co-operate with the immunization teams to make the exercise a success.
